Race 2 - (1200 METRES) - SPARTAN FLAME - 2nd. Trainer: Dean Krongold.
Is underrated this 3yo who won well at a big price on debut before safely being held in a strong BM64 then was spelled. Ultimately just found the 1200m a little sharp behind the favorite that had all the favors but he was the one rattling home when finally balancing up at the 100m. Nice type and should only improve off this.
Race 3 - (2100 METRES) - DABIYR - 1st. Trainer: Chris Waller.
This was only start number five (and second in Australia) for this import who took good improvement with the step up in trip and the most impressive part was his ability to pick up again as a stayer after he was shoved back in a pocket when travelling strongly. Down in the ratings, has upside and there's no doubt he should have won this by further.
Race 4 - (1300 METRES) - LIMESHOW - 4th. Trainer: Ellerton & Zahra.
Resuming off a break after a failed attempt at Flemington and should be the biggest improver out of what wasn't a bad fillies race, especially as the distances increase where she looks to have thrown more to a few generations back on her dam side, more-so than her half sister Limestone. Still a work in progress but this could be the prep where the penny drops.
Race 3 - (1200 METRES) - STARLA - 3rd. Trainer: Chris Waller.
Obviously disappointing for those that backed her into $1.90 but personally, I think she was just so well supported off her first prep potential, rather than necessarily being well suited resuming over 1200m at Canterbury, so a false favorite. Out of a useful race mare in Houston Benefactor who's a full sister to a Group 2 winner Sovereign Nation, the breeding suggests this girl needs more ground and this effort certainly backed that up.
