Belmont - Wednesday September 4

BY Alex Marsh -
1 week ago Tips
  • Rail Position: Out 17m, Cutaway in the straight.
  • Track Conditions: Soft 5.
  • Track Comments: Track played on Saturday but a completely different set-up here with the rail out a long way and a cutaway which can be hit or miss in regards to favorable going.

Race 1, No. 5 NAUGHTY BY NATURE

Short but should taking beating here with Pike taking the ride at start number three. Dropping back to a maiden and the step up in trip should suit following the seven furlong effort here where he didn't have much luck from the inside alley and Kay Cee franked the form by winning again on Saturday.

Race 6, No. 4 THE ESCORT

Is suspect at the mile, so is back to the 1400m today. This is also easier coming back from Saturday level at his last two starts where whilst he's had chances in both of them, has been competitive and meets the favorite 2kg better from roughly a one length defeat there. Does look a little over the odds at $10.

Lindsey Smith has trained 6 winners from his 20 starters at Belmont so far this season and he has two runners in at this meeting.

Race 7, No. 1 HEAVENLY AFFAIR

Backing up from a strong victory last week and has been backed into an odds-on quote early.

Leg 1: 1,2,8,9

Leg 2: 2,6,8,11

Leg 3: 1,3,4,6

Leg 4: 1

$32 gets you 50%.

Selections

Race 1: 5-1-4-2. Best Bet see above.

Race 2: 10-8-6-2. Tricky race with a lot of these resuming and Warbler does look awfully short given that one plain performance in July. Beret was honest from a tough spot on debut and the extra 200m suits.

Race 3: 12-6-1-11. Ridden out to score fresh and that time was comparable with the Class 3 on that card taken out by Ice Maker (won again on Sat). Rolls forward and has upside.

Race 4: 8-2-1-9. At least a few progressive types getting around in this. Belle Of Liberty is likely to take luck out of the equation early and should be unbeaten. A stronger win than perhaps it first looked at Pinjarra.

Race 5: 6-8-11-2. Wasn't disgraced first up in a tougher race where it was set up for the swoopers and dropping to this grade last start, bombed the start from the widest gate but was good late considering.

Race 6: 4-6-3-1. Bolter see above.

Race 7: 1-6-10-4. Is getting up in the weights now but clearly the form runner amongst a rather limited sort of field. Backing up but is very well placed to win again in this class.
