Arguably the most exciting sprinter in the land (over 1000m anyway) has all but been confirmed for the ATC slot in this year's $13 million Everest with the Darren Weir trained Nature Strip set to take his place.
He broke the Moonee Valley track record over 1000m (56:95) on Saturday when holding off the gallant Houtzen and this 4 year old son of Nicconi has been on a rampage since joining the Weir yard with two listed wins in a row prior to Saturday which included a 6 length demolition job of Sunlight and co in the Lighting Stakes at Morphettville. Nature Strip is currently the fourth favorite in futures betting on the Everest at $8.
One slot still remains to be filled following Menari's injury and subsequent retirement (for Max Whitby and Neil Werrett) with a few of the stronger remaining candidates to put their case forward via the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick and the Group 2 Bobby Lewis (1200m) at Flemington. Both are on this Saturday.
