Over the coming weeks we'll run our eye over the major Group 1's of the spring and try as hard as it may be to nail the chances with hopefully a bit of value involved this far out in the all in markets.
The first chances we'll look at is for $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas for the 3 year old fillies. At this stage I don't have an overly firm opinion for a standout selection as right now it does very open amongst the girls. But with that we'll be getting a price and for now I have the major chances as the following.
ANJANA - $34
I feel with all the fuss about the unlucky Assertive Play that it was a bit of a forgotten about run coming from the Atlantic Jewel on Saturday for this Weir trained filly who was returning following an unbeaten run of three runs at her first three starts in late autumn/early winter. The Atlantic Jewel is generally a strong form reference for the girls over the spring and at the very least I wanted to see this runner measure up to this class, which she certainly did in a pleasing return from the wide alley where she didn't have luck and hit the line as well as anything.
Perhaps a little modestly bred at first glance this $34,000 Inglis Classic Yearling purchase by the savvy Roll The Dice syndicate who have had success with Darren Weir previously with multiple Group winner Mahuta, this filly by Sepoy and out of an un-raced More Than Re...
